摘要
Accommodation challenges on campuses of Nigerian higher institutions have led to most students residing in off-campus housing. This study examined the impacts of studentification in Ile-Ife, Nigeria and how well residents in the community get along with students. To collect data in the quantitative study, 148 residents (who are not students) drawn from seven zones of off-campus housing in Ile-Ife participated in a survey. Of the twenty-nine impacts identified, economic impacts were more tolerable to residents compared to socio-cultural impacts. Determinant factors such as respondents’ length of stay in the area, level of education, and previous experience with students influenced tolerance to studentification’s impacts. This study highlights the need for, and possibility of community’s trust in and acceptance of students for peaceful and mutually profitable co-existence.
