摘要
There is a paucity of research into small and rural town regeneration in the United States. This paper examines regenerative efforts in Kinston, NC using the lens of Catalytic Community Development, a framework that focuses on local efforts that bring new economic capacities to regenerative efforts. Kinston has seen decades of decline as traditional industries migrated to other regions. A group of local changemakers have combined efforts with city staff and non-profits to catalyze economic growth through the arts and cultural tourism. Several events provided the spark of regeneration that this local network is keen to capitalize on. These efforts support findings that Catalytic Community Development can serve as a viable framework for rural small-town regeneration.
